Billy KellyApril 13, 1930 ~ August 22, 2017 (age 87)
Billy S. Kelly, a wonderful man age 87, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 after a short illness.
Billy was born in Slocomb, Al, to J.H. and Allie Kelly. He enrolled in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict and served overseas at several bases in Europe and the Middle-East. After his honorable discharge from active duty he returned to Alabama and graduated from Alabama Polytechnic Institute in 1958 with a BS degree in Electrical Engineering. Many now know this as Auburn University, of which he has always been a proud Alumni and a huge Auburn Tiger Football Fan!
Billy had a long satisfying career in Civil Service, working first at Brookley Field in Mobile, Ala, and then working closely with NASA at Cape Canaveral, FL, on the Gemini and Apollo communications systems. He eventually moved his family to Fort Walton Beach in 1966 and began his Civil Service career in Coms at Eglin AFB before retiring in 1987.
Billy is survived by the love of his life, his wife of almost 59 years, Peggy (Galloway) Kelly, his son Billy, and daughter Glenda, plus his pride and joy, his grandsons Christopher and Kevin, sons of Billy. He is also survived by a brother Joe M. Kelly (Faye), and many loving brother’s and sister’s-in-law, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Saturday August 26, 2017 at 3:00 pm with the service immediately following at 4:00 at Emerald Coast Funeral Home, 161 Racetrack Rd NW, Ft. Walton Bch, FL, 32547
It was Billy’s wishes in lieu of flowers that donations are made to the “Monday Morning Ministry” of First Baptist Church of FWB. He dearly loved working in this service of others until his health would no longer allow him to be physically active.
