Winifred Helen Miller

Winifred “Winnie” Miller (nee Durrant), age 83, went to be with our Lord on November 30th, 2018 after fighting a long illness. 

Memorial Service will be at 3 PM on Wednesday, December 12, 2018, at Emerald Coast Funeral Home, 161 Racetrack Road; Fort Walton Beach, FL.  There will be a Celebration of Life gathering after the service in the Legacy Reception Room at Emerald Coast Funeral Home.

Winnie was a native of London, England, born on October 10, 1935.  Her parents were William “Bill” and Rose (Hawes) Durrant and she was the youngest of three children.   After high school, Winnie worked as a retail sales associate in London until she married William “Bill” Miller on April 9, 1955.  Bill was from Ohio, a member of the Air Force stationed in London.  For the next twenty years, they were assigned to many bases all over the world and welcomed the birth of two daughters, Sandra and Sharon.

In 1972, Winnie & Bill retired in Fort Walton Beach, FL.  Winnie was an employee of AAFES for the next 25 years working at Hancock Field AFB, Syracuse NY and Eglin AFB, FL in the Base Exchange.   Bill worked with civil service at Hurlburt Field AFB.  In 1978, Bill lost a battle with cancer and passed away.

After Winnie retired, she continued to reside in Fort Walton Beach, traveled and enjoyed her life & family.  She moved in 2005 to live near her daughter, Sandy in the Dallas/Fort Worth area; and returned to Fort Walton Beach in 2010 to live next door to her daughter, Sharon.

Winnie is survived by her daughters Sandra (Jeff) Wickstrom and Sharon (Eric) Wilson; Sandra’s daughter Megan (Will) Carter, stepdaughter Kelly, and stepson Ryan; and Sharon’s stepsons Eric (Jr), Ryan, and Trey.  Winnie also had two great grandsons – Jeffry and Nash; and five step great grandchildren, Lily, Eian, Joe, Silas, and Coraline.  Additionally, Winnie is survived by her siblings – Jimmy and Pat Durrant and numerous nieces and nephews.

Winnie was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Miller and her parents, Bill and Rose Durrant.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the American Diabetes Foundation or the American Cancer Foundation.
