SSG William “Billy” Lowell Mayer, age 41, passed away October 31, 2019 in Destin, Florida. He was born April 10, 1978 in Hillsboro, Oregon to Daniel Mayer and Leola Weaver.He enlisted in the Army in 1998 as a UH-60 Blackhawk Crew Chief. He toured South Korea, Germany, Hawaii, Ft Polk, Ft Carson and Eglin AFB. He completed 3 tours of duty in Afghanistan, one as a Blackhawk Crew Chief and two as an EOD technician. Billy’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star medal, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghan Campaign Medal-Campaign Star, Global War on Terror Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Non Commissioned Officer Professional Development Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Medal, North Atlantic Treaty Organization Medal, Combat Action Badge, Aviation Badge, Master Explosive Ordinance Disposal Badge.  Billy was an avid Chargers and Oregon Ducks football fan. He enjoyed helping people (Hunter’s boat and anything else that was a mechanical challenge). He could never get enough time with his boys and enjoyed boating, surfing, the beach and the lake. He loved his faithful dog Iceman and his tough man truck. He always had a positive attitude and always made people laugh. Anyone you talk to that knows Billy has a funny story to share.  He was preceded in death by his sister Misty Kresel. He is survived by his wife Becky and two sons, Justin Lowell Mayer and Leland Michael Mayer, his mother Leola Weaver, father and step mother Dan and Erinn Mayer. Billy is also survived by a very special woman, Jennifer “Jenky” Fields, whom he cared about deeply.  Visitation will be held at Emerald Coast Funeral Home (161 Racetrack Rd. NW, Ft. Walton Beach, FL 32547) and will start at 11:00 followed by services and full military honors at 1:00.
