William Maurice "Bill" Keegan, Jr.

William Maurice “Bill” Keegan Jr, age 74, of Destin, FL passed away suddenly at home on Monday, June 7, 2021.Bill was born on July 11, 1946 to the late LaVergne (Nelson) and William Maurice Keegan Sr in Chicago, IL.

He lived out his childhood in Chicago and graduated from Luther South in 1964.

A beloved husband of 53 years, he married his high school sweetheart Nancy (Hemeli) Keegan on May 5, 1968 in Chicago, IL. He was the beloved father of William (Stephanie) Keegan, Kevin (Lori) Keegan, and Kristin (Todd) Morlan; devoted grandfather of Kaylee Keegan, Payton Morlan, Zachary Keegan, Tanner Morlan, Lainey Keegan, Jacob Keegan and step-grandson Peyton Darley. Dear brother of Patricia (late Dave) Sivertson and Karen McCoy.

Bill joined the Marine Corps right out of high school. He is a proud Vietnam Veteran and was awarded two Purple Hearts. After his military service, he dedicated his entire career to the Ironworkers Union Local 1 in Chicago eventually becoming president of the union until his retirement in 1996. Bill and his wife Nancy retired to Destin, FL in 1998, enjoying wonderful friends, the golf course and boating. Bill’s greatest accomplishment in life was his family. He was deeply devoted to and treasured his wife Nancy. He was an affectionate father who supported and encouraged his children. He was so proud of his grandchildren and went out of his way to always make them feel special. He was a mentor for many outside his family, who looked up to him as an example of hard work and generosity. He believed in everyone and would give the shirt off his back to help anyone in need. Bill lit up a room with his bright blue eyes and infectious smile. He was a jokester with a witty sense of humor and charm. You could count on him to be the life of the party and make everything fun. He met a friend wherever he went and carried a bold presence that will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at 2pm at Immanuel Anglican Church, 250 Indian Bayou Trail, Destin, FL 32541. The family will receive friends and family at the church one hour prior to the service. A private interment will be held on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, FL.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in his name to a charity that supports military veterans.
