My condolences to the family. My parents and I hung out with them a few times back when my father was a county commissioner in the 90's. I always enjoyed the time with Jack and his wife when I was a teenager. He gave me a picture of Bob Hope and him. I still have it! They made a lasting impression on me.

Jackie and I had classes together at Auburn--We both majored in Forestry--I will never forget when we had "Map Drawing Class" together---He was good at it--I was terrible---One day my ink pen ran all over my map and we had a big laugh---We got together again at Ted and Juie Foret's home during the past years watching Auburn and I will always treasure his friendship and send my sincere sympathy to his family

Dear Jackie and family,
With a heavy heart I learned of Jackie's passing, and memories came flooding in. Jackie took Tom under his wing, so to speak, during Tom's early years as a Saint. He set an example for Tom on how to not only be a respected athlete, but how to be a respected man. They weren't together for long, but long enough for Tom to realize that an NFL player has a responsibility to set a good example for others, especially the young people. I saw Tom grow up some that last year together with the Saints because of Jackie. Tom looked up to Jackie; he truly loved him.
Then, of course, there was the field goal! Tom always said it was team work--a perfect long snap from Jackie, and a perfect hold from Joe. Together, they made that record breaking field goal! Special memories!
We always loved seeing y'all at the alumni games in NO. I wish we could have gotten together these last years, but life seemed to get in the way every time we made plans..
The thoughts and prayers of the entire Dempsey family are with you and your family. May God bless you all and give you Peace.
Love,
Carlene

Dear Family of Jackie Burkett,

I am sorry for your loss and hope, in time, these present feelings will be replaced with good and pleasant memories. Jackie Burkett was a childhood hero of mine as my mother worked with his mother and I always heard glowing, and proud things about him as a child. I was so pleased to meet Jackie Burkett as an adult. It was one of the highlights of my life. I know you miss him so much. You are in my prayers and thoughts at this time.

Thinking of you and wishing you peace and comfort as you remember all the wonderful memories and times you shared together. I know my father (Tom Dempsey) would love to be there however due to his health he is unable. He loved both Jackies and always spoke highly of the two of you. The Dempseys are keeping you all in our thoughts and prayers.

I only met Jackie one time, about 5 years ago, but he was still larger than life. He was a household word at my late beloved father in law's house, Sonny Gardner, from Montgomery, Alabama, as he saw him play and knew him well. His records speaks for itself, but we have also lost a true southern gentleman and ardent Auburn supporter. God bless. Robert Margeson
