Timothy Lavern Wing

Timothy Lavern Wing died Friday evening in his home in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida. He was 62 years old. Tim was born on December 11, 1957 in Winchester, Virginia, the eldest son of the late Oren Lavern and Martha Elaine (Judd) Wing. 

Tim was a 1976 graduate of Lawrence North Central High School in Indianapolis, Indiana and attended Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina.

Tim will best be remembered as a talented musician—a masterful pianist and gifted trumpeter. Throughout his lifetime, his music ministry was a comfort to many church congregations, friends, and family. Growing up in church as a minister’s son left a lasting impression on Tim and he felt most at home communing in church, absorbing sermons, and studying the Word of God. He was an avid Bible reader who loved to share and discuss his Biblical knowledge with others. He had a great love for people and was a friend to all. 

In 1979, he began a career as a minister of music that would last for the next 28 years, beginning at Taylor Center Baptist in Taylor, Michigan; followed by Miller Bible Church in Lansing, Michigan; Tabernacle Baptist in Century, Florida; Charity Baptist in Holt, Michigan; Hollywood Baptist in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida; and finally Westwood Baptist in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida.

Tim was an adoring father to two beautiful girls and a grandfather of nine. He is survived by his wife, Julie Dawn (Smith) Wing; his daughter, Ashley Marie Burchfield, husband Phil of Phenix City, Alabama and their children, Madison, Olivia, Ava, Kaden, Ella & Kiley; his daughter, Amber Michelle Tellez, husband Brandon and their children, Briley, Brodie & Brooklynn of Ft. Walton Beach, Florida; one brother, Samuel Jay Wing of Richmond, Virginia; one sister, Rebekah Joy Wing of Richmond, Virginia; and one nephew, Ozric Wing Panza of Richmond, Virginia. In addition to his parents, Tim was preceded in death by his brother, Daniel Ray Wing. 

A funeral service will be held at Calvary Baptist Church in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida on Tuesday, June 16, 2020 at 11am with a viewing beginning at 10am and his interment will follow at Beal Memorial Cemetery in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida.
