Theresa Reeves

Theresa McKinney Reeves, age 90, passed from this life into eternity on Friday February 12, 2021. She was born September 12, 1930 in Ferndale, Michigan to James and Dollie (Wilson) McKinney.

Theresa was united in holy matrimony to her beloved husband Wilbert B. Reeves on July 22, 1950.  Wilbert preceded her in death on October 23, 1992. 

She was the third child born into a large and loving family of 10 children.  Theresa was the last surviving member of her siblings; Joseph (Thelma), Monroe, James (Mary), Roosevelt (Jackie), Richard (Jessie), Clarence (Janetta), Sylvester, Ruby (Melvin) and Christine (Jack). 

Theresa lived a rich, blessed life beginning in the cultural mecca of black Detroit, and later as a well-traveled military wife.  She had a wonderful sense of style and always drew compliments for her gorgeous hats and outfits.  Theresa was a huge sports fan who never met a stranger.  She had the ability to strike up a conversation with anyone, and usually took the opportunity to do so – often much to her family’s dismay.  Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, she attended Generations United Church in Niceville Florida.

Theresa is survived by her children Winona Reeves Beckford (Reinaldo); Tawanda Reeves Brown (Gregory); Wilbert B. Reeves II; and Wilbert David Reeves (Odinessa); grandchildren Reginald Beckford (Robyn); Rashika Beckford; Stephanie Brown Alexander (Brandon); Gregory Brown; Theresa Reeves Velasco (Andres); Yasier Reeves; Amaya Reeves; Yahir Reeves; Richard Brown; Christopher Brown; great-grandchildren Antonio Beckford, Roc Beckford; Rylee Beckford; Wilbert B. Reeves III; Amaryonna Beckford.  She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends who will miss her exuberant personality.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday February 17, 2021 at the Emerald Coast Funeral Home, 161 Racetrack Road, NW., Ft. Walton Beach FL 32547, with the Rev. Cecil Williams officiating.

The visitation will be at 1pm and the service at 2pm.  Theresa’s grandsons will serve as honorary pall bearers.
