Ted Bass passed unexpectedly at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center on October 19, 2019, at the age of 82.
He was born in Pensacola, FL on December 18, 1936. His parents, Louis Theodore Bass and Agnes Catherine Staff Bass preceded him in death.
Ted was the first grandson of Theodore Staff and Molly Staff of the historic Gulfview Hotel.
He was married on September 30, 1961 to Martha Stewart Bass of Valparaiso, Florida for 58 years.
He attended Saint Stanislaus School in MS. He graduated college from Troy State University in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in Mathematics and minoring in Art.
His early career was Data System Analysis in New Orleans. He was fortunate to contribute to the Saturn Five Project in Slidell, LA. He had many data systems career opportunities in communities throughout the US.
Upon returning to Fort Walton Beach, he created Impact Computing, and developed data systems for Okaloosa County Schools, Okaloosa Gas, White-Wilson Medical Clinic, Metric Systems, and many other local businesses.
His second career was managing his parents business, Staffs Restaurant for several years. He wanted to brew beer, so he trained at brew schools in California, Oregon, and Colorado.
Santa Rosa Bay Brewery & Waterfront Cafe was his next venture. It was the first waterfront microbrewery in Florida, and a great success for the next ten years.
He was honored with many awards and festivities in his life. He sponsored the first Brewfest in Fort Walton Beach with great musicians and artists performing.
It was a magical time and he was extremely grateful for the community
As a true patriot, he made a success of his military training. He graduated as an Army Officer from Fort Benning, GA in 1961.
Teds hobbies were many and varied. Playing and following golf was his passion. He loved all water sports and was an outstanding swimmer.
As an artist, painting in oils, and creating clay and glass sculptures was a way to express his personal enjoyment.
Ted and his family were members of Saint Mary’s Catholic Church on First Street in Fort Walton Beach where his mom played organ and Ted helped serve mass. His father had been the contractor and Ted helped his dad build the facility.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Hayden Stewart Bass, Fort Walton Beach, FL; daughter, Carlie Bass Gintoli and husband, Jeffrey Gintoli, of Panama City Beach, FL; son, Theodore F. Bass (T. J.), Fort Walton Beach, FL; granddaughter, Courtney H. Shealy, Long Island City, NY; step-grandson, Myles Gintoli, Panama City Beach, FL; step-granddaughter, Fallon Gintoli, Panama City Beach, FL; sister-in-law, Carolyn B. Hudson and husband Jimmy Hudson, Valparaiso, FL; niece, Cindy (Jerry) Campbell, Destin, FL; sisters, Catherine Bass (Noble) Wyninegar; Martha Bass Garvie, and Lillian Bass Hill.
A Celebration of Life will be Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at 2 PM at Emerald Coast Funeral Home, 161 Racetrack Road NW, Fort Walton Beach, FL 32547 with Father Crawford officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services.
