On May 14, 2020, 38-year-old TSgt Phillip “Carl” Vos of Fort Walton Beach, FL, passed away at a local hospital due to a sudden illness. Carl was born in Fort Walton Beach on May 9, 1982. Being an Air Force Brat was a huge influence in his choice to enlist in the United States Air Force after graduating from Vanden High School in Vacaville, California at the age of 18.
During his 20-year career Carl rose to the rank of TSgt and served at seven duty stations across the globe from Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico to Germany, Guam and Diego Garcia. He finally made his way back home to Hurlburt Field, Florida. His deployments to the Middle East included Al Udeid Air Base, Baghdad, Kyrgyzstan, and Afghanistan. His career awards include the Joint Service Commendation Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal (Two Oak Leaf Clusters).
He is survived by his son Xander Lara, father MSgt Steven Vos (Ret), mother Angela (Wright) Vos, sister Christina (Vos) Jenkins, her husband Paul, nieces Kaylee and Lindsey, grandparents Sharon and Joel Stitt, Nancy Hoover and countless aunts, uncles, cousins, and fellow U.S. Service Men and Women who loved him beyond measure.
