Stephen Brown McCown

It’s with a saddened heart that the McCown family of Navarre, formerly of Fort Walton Beach, share that our husband, father, grandfather, brother and Uncle went to be with his Heavenly Father April 18, 2021. Steve was born April 8, 1943 in Birmingham, Alabama to Mary Brown McCown and Leo R. McCown. He was preceded in death by his father, his mother and his twin brother. He is survived by his wife, Rosemary, his daughters, Patricia McCown Canelo (Omar) of Coral Springs, Florida, Stephanie McCown (David) of Navarre, Florida, his sister Sharon McCown Painter (Rick) of Birmingham, Alabama, Grandson, Gabriel Christian Hastings of Navarre, Florida, Granddaughter, Miranda EmmaRose Schroeder of Navarre, FL, Brother-in-Law, James Fayette (Sharlene) of Mobile, AL , and numerous nieces and nephews.

 Steve is a graduate of Phillips High School in Birmingham and received a BA degree in Math education and Music from Auburn University.  He taught math in several Florida schools and was a Music Minister in churches in South Florida and in the Florida Panhandle.  He retired from teaching at Santa Rosa County Adult High School in Milton, FL June 2012.  He developed and taught the first full school day length GED program in Florida. 

 Steve’s love of music was very evident in his life. He has performed many recitals, provided music for numerous weddings and taught both piano and voice privately.  Music was a vital part of his life and during his stay in a local rehab recently he treated the other patients to an impromptu recital.

 He will be so badly missed by his loved ones and so many friends.
