Stephen Alan Carroll, (better known as Steve or “Grumpy”), of Shalimar, FL was called home to his Heavenly Father Tuesday morning, January 7, 2020.
He was born in Bessemer, Alabama. He was 65 years of age. Steve attended University of Alabama Birmingham (UAB). At the age of 19 he joined the Air Force and continued his education while traveling to many countries and states until he was stationed at Hurlburt Field, Florida and after 28 years of service, he retired here. During his military career he received several accommodation’s pertaining to outstanding leadership and support. After retirement Steve was employed for approximately 25 years with BAE Systems. He was looking forward to his second retirement in June 2020 but Steve was never one who was looking to retire from his spiritual call. He was a witness for Christ wherever he went and a humble but fervent unspoken prayer warrior on behalf of those who needed it. Steve found his calling at Shalimar Baptist Church where he spent 36 years dutifully serving in many ways. Steve loved holding and singing to babies in the nursery, he taught 4- and 5-year old’s during Sunday School and worked with youth. To him, his real calling was running the sound system and serving as a deacon to help encourage others. More importantly, Steve agreeably participated in any and all activities his wife “encouraged” him to be involved with. Working together with her was something he truly enjoyed doing. ALABAMA FOOTBALL and riding Harley Davidson motorcycles with his friends was some of his favorite past times. Steve loved Alabama Football so much he taught his 3 grandsons how to say “Roll Tide” when they first started to speak. Steve was called Grumpy from the beginning by his first grandson and anyone that knew Steve, would say that it was a perfect fit. However, under that “grumpy” exterior was a heart of gold. More than anything he loved spending quality time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Karen Moore Carroll, daughter Stephanie Carroll Pajor, son-in-law Todd Pajor and three wonderful grandsons, Kole, Kade and Konnor Pajor all of Shalimar. Brother Danny Carroll and sister-in-law Becky Carroll of Alabama. Several nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members. A plethora of friends from Church and Work that have become family. Steve is preceded in death by his parents Betty and Harvey Carroll.
Emerald Coast Funeral Home has been entrusted to help complete Steve’s journey. Visitation will be held at Shalimar Baptist Church on Friday, January 10th at 10:30AM. Celebration of Life Service begins at 11:00AM. There will be a graveside service at Beal Memorial Cemetery. In honor of Steve’s friendship The Patriot Guard will escort the funeral procession.
