Shirley Ann McCarthy

Our beautiful wife and mother lost her battle with Alzheimer’s disease on Saturday, June 5, 2021.  We are heartbroken.

Shirley was born and raised in Granite City, Illinois.  She met Jim when she was a legal secretary in St. Louis and Jim was a student at Parks College.  They married there and started their life together in Dayton, Ohio with daughter Maureen and son Michael and then moved to Fort Walton Beach as Jim pursued his career as a civilian engineer with the Air Force.  Shirley was an accomplished artist and teacher known for her beautiful watercolor floral paintings.  Always active, she especially enjoyed playing tennis and exploring the outdoors with Him, but her primary interest was always being the best wife and mother anyone could hope for.

The family would like to thank the staff at Belvedere Commons and especially the nurses and aides in the memory care unit there along with the staff of Emerald Coast Hospice for their loving care during her final days.

The family will share their grief in private and will not have a funeral ceremony.
