Col Robert (Bob) D. Fowner, USMC, passed away August 20, 2018 in Fort Walton Beach, Florida at the age of 85. Bob was born June 16, 1933, in Philadelphia, PA, to Maurice Fowner and Sarah Moss.
Bob graduated from Northeast Catholic High School in 1951 and attended Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA before transferring to and earning a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland. Upon graduating from college, he was commissioned a second lieutenant in July of 1955 and entered aviation cadet training which began his career in the United States Marine Corp. Bob retired from the Marine Corp after 24 years of distinguished service, traveling the world, and serving his country during the Vietnam War. His favorite memory of his time in the Marine Corp was being a pilot. During his career, he piloted over 30 different aircraft models including, in part, the F-4 Phantom, F-8 Crusader, KC-130, and CH-46.
After retiring from the Marine Corp, Bob began his second career as a Community Association Manager ultimately building a successful family business which is still in operation today. His career in this field was highlighted in December 2017 when the local chapter of the Community Association Institute presented him with the Lifetime of Excellence Award.
Bob loved watching anything golf related, his beloved Phillies and Eagles, and documentaries about the old days. He remained active in service to others and was a 22 year member of the Fort Walton Beach Rotary Club at the time of his passing.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother. He is survived by his wife Debbie; sister Phyllis Gardiner (Chuck); children Bob Fowner Jr. (Stephanie), Mike Fowner, Andrea McDermott (John), Tom Fowner (Chris), and Aaron Webber (Casey). He is also survived by eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 10-11am on August 27, 2018. Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church FWB, 21 First Street, Fort Walton Beach, FL 32548 on August 27, 2018 from 11-12pm. Burial services will be held at Beal Memorial Cemetery following the funeral service.
