Robert Oren Roland

July 12, 1928 ~ February 7, 2024 (age 95) 95 Years Old


Robert Oren Roland, a long-time resident of Fort Walton Beach passed away on February 7, 2024 at the age of 95 in Panama City Florida at the Clifford Sims VA Nursing Home. His son Chuck was by his side holding his hand as he passed quietly from the bounds of this earth to the loving arms of God to be with Him for all eternity. Robert was known by all of his closest friends as “Mr. R” and eventually that name stuck with him and he was known by that name by everyone. Robert was drafted in 1949 to the US Army and fought in the Korean War in 1950 at the battle of Chosin Reservoir.  He stayed in the Army after the war and retired honorably in 1971 as a Master Sergeant.  

Robert was born to Charlie Roland and Beulah Mae Lowe on July 28, 1928 in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He is predeceased by his wife Peggy Lee Roland, his daughter Martha Kathleen Root (Roland), his older brother George Roland and sister-in-law Nina Rhodes.  He is survived by his son Chuck Roland, his son-in-law Jim Root, his grand children David Roland, Christina Sims (Roland) and Nick Chauvin and his great grandchildren, Kaydence Sims, Elianna Sims, Steele Sims and Ezra Roland.

A funeral service will be held on February 28 at 3:00 P.M. at Emerald Coast Funeral Home in Fort Walton Beach.  The Family will receive visitors starting at 2:00 P.M. or 1 hour prior to the start of the service. A celebration of life reception will follow the service at 4:00 P.M. at the American Legion on Hollywood Blvd. in Fort Walton Beach. The family extends an invitation to all friends of Mr. R.  Interment will take place at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Florida on Friday March 1 at 11:30 A.M. and the family extends an invitation to all of his friends that would like to attend.

Robert was loved dearly and cherished by all of his family and the many friends that he made and knew in the Fort Walton Beach area. He will be remembered as a kind and generous soul that loved God, his family and all of his many friends. He touched countless lives and brought so much happiness and joy to everyone that knew him.
