Richard Barnes Mabry Jr.

Richard Barnes Mabry, Jr., age 86, passed away due to complications from a stroke on Oct. 14, 2021, surrounded by his loved ones. Richard was born on June 8, 1935, in Macon, GA, to Hilda and Richard Barnes Mabry, Sr. After graduating from Georgia Tech in 1958, he began his much-loved 50 year career as a mechanical engineer with the Air Force Research Lab’s Fuzes Branch at Eglin AFB. His ability to design and create fuzes for munitions lead to his being considered one of the leading engineers in the country.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Frederick Durham Mabry. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 56 years, Mary Kate Davidson Mabry; his children, Mary Kate “Kittye” Keck (John), Karen Frances Ricci (Michael), Richard Barnes, III, and Susan Louise Sellers (John Seales); grandchildren, Mary Kate “Katie”, Ross, and William Kitchens, Timothy and Anna Sellers, and Julia and John “Jack” Ricci; and three great-grandchildren.
