Richard Lee Dokey

February 15, 1934 ~ March 19, 2017 (age 83) 83 Years Old

Mr. Richard L. Dokey was a husband, father, U.S. Army veteran, Mason, Shriner and a former Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office Special Deputy. Mr. Dokey was a true patriot, a hard worker, a talented craftsman and a strong supporter for law enforcement. He loved his country and serving in the military. He received an honorable discharge from the Army of the United States and while in service, received a good conduct medal and multiple letters of commendation from commanders, non-commissioned officers and others. While working at Argonne National Laboratory for 35 years, which is best known for The Manhattan Project, he obtained his degree with honors in Industrial Engineering.

Near the end of his life, Richard said he made a few mistakes but had no regrets. Of all the things he had done in his life, his greatest accomplishments were his two children, William and Catherine.

Richard is survived by his wife of 54 years, Lois Dokey; son William Dokey; daughter Catherine Card; son-in-law Mike Card; granddaughters, Jenna and Elizabeth Rodriguez; sister, Merrilee Temple; Brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Grady and Sharon Burrow; sister-in-law, Terry Richman; Brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Bonnie Dokey; Brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Juanita Dokey; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Leona Dokey, and Lois’s parents who were very close to Richard, Allen and Ann Grossman.

Memorial services for Richard Lee Dokey will be held at Emerald Coast Funeral Home, located at 161 Racetrack Road NW, Fort Walton Beach, Fl. 32547, on Monday, April 10, 2017. Family visitation will be from 9am-10am, open to the public. The memorial service will be from 10am-11am and will include U.S. Army military honors (at the funeral home) and a supplication by the Shriners. The immediate and close family will then travel directly to Destin Cemetery for inurnment and a small/private family ceremony.
