Carl Richard Barrington, 93, resident of Destin, Florida, passed away Tuesday, November 5, 2019, at his home. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 10, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Faith Assembly Christian Church, 306 South Geronimo Street, Destin, Florida. Mr. Barrington, known as Richard or Big B to his family and friends, was the son of the late Carl Calvin Barrington and Nettie Lee Holland Barrington and was born on February 24, 1926, in Columbus, Georgia. Richard served in the Navy during World War II and then served in the National Guard. Richard lived in Columbus until 1983 and had a career in the car business until his retirement from Barrington Ford. While living in Columbus, Richard was active in various civic and professional organizations, serving as President of the Sertoma Club. He enjoyed racing stock cars, showing horses, traveling, riding motorcycles, boating, and deep-sea fishing. He loved living in Destin where he worked in real estate and continued his philanthropic activities, winning the Paul Woolman Ambassador of the Year award multiple times for the Destin Area Chamber of Commerce. He was an active member of the Faith Assembly Christian Church. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers James E. Barrington and William D. Barrington. Richard is survived by his three children: Gail Barrington Underwood (Steve), Carl Richard Barrington, Jr. (Kaycee), and Kim Barrington Hoffman (Peter); his step-son, Darrin Auger; grandchildren: Jessica Underwood Batson (Kurt), Adrienne Barrington Deen (Josh), Paul Barrington Hoffman (Mollie), Carl Richard Barrington, III (Andrea), and Chad Jameson Hoffman; and great-grandchildren: Sael, Nolan, Myles, Carolyn, Callie, Pierce and Ehukai.
