Banks was born in Spout Spring, Appomattox County Virginia.  He attended Carver Price High School and graduated from Appomattox High School in June, 1972.  Banks joined the USAF prior to graduation and went active duty in October, 1972 as an AF security police.  He served 24 years active duty.  His military service included two tours of duty in Thailand and three tours in Korea, one in Wyoming, Kansas, and Virginia.  He retired from Hurlburt Field AFB, FL on November 1, 1996.  He continued working for the Federal Government and retired again after 15 years of civil service due to illness in 2013.  Banks always kept a smile and believed that you could overcome many challenges with a smile and a positive perspective, the same belief instilled by his father.  Banks also believed that as a supervisor, if you kept employees happy they would not fail you, and he supervised as such.  His motto: "happy people do happy work". Banks hobbies included watching and playing basketball, football, and enjoyed watching golf and almost any other sport.  His main hobby was playing his guitars.  His guitar skills were learned from his mother, Dorothy M Calloway, whose family were very talented musicians in gospel and other types of music.   She was related to the great musician Cab Calloway.  Banks is survived by his wife, Compo Jones, Fort Walton Beach, FL, son Chatree Jones and granddaughter Francesca Jones of Mary Esther, FL, sisters Ellen Jones, Promise Land, VA, Margaret Jones, Prospect, VA, Ethel Greene, Prospect, VA, Dorothy Green, Farmville, VA, Rosetta Hill, Baltimore, MD, brothers Darnell Jones Appomattox, VA and Ronald Cosby, Baltimore, MD.  Aunt Shirley Mitchell, Concorde, VA, uncles Russell Jones, Red House, VA, Richard Calloway, Baltimore, MD.  A host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
