Michael Lane

February 17, 1966 ~ October 8, 2017 (age 51) 51 Years Old

Michael Stuart Lane, 51, of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, died Sunday, October 8, 2017, with his beloved wife, Edna, by his side. Born February 17, 1966, in Bowling Green, Kentucky to Joan and John Lane, Michael was the fourth of five children. The family moved to Mobile, Alabama, in 1967. He graduated from Murphy High School in 1984 and entered the United States Navy. He served as an Aviation Ordinance Man in the Maintenance Division on the U.S.S. Coral Sea in the Mediterranean Sea during the Libyan Gaddafi crisis. After serving his country for four years, Michael attended Bishop State University and graduated with an R.N. degree in 1999. He worked in the health care industry at Fairhope Health and Rehabilitation, Mobile Infirmary Hospital, Senior Home Care, Simply Health Care and Fort Walton Beach Medical Center where his last position was Case Manager. Michael had a zest for life, was a true patriot, and loved his family. He enjoyed Alabama football, fishing, poker and a good laugh. Michael was usually the one sharing a funny story and keeping everyone in stitches. He was multi-talented around the house and tackled many Do-It-Yourself projects with success. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus (St. Mary’s Council # 4444) and Fort Walton Beach Elks Lodge, where he served in the position of Head Chaplain. While working at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center, Michael met the love of his life, Edna Venegas, another nurse at the hospital. They married in 2012 and recently celebrated their 5th wedding anniversary. Edna lovingly cared for Michael during his long battle with cancer. She truly became another daughter to Michael’s parents, a sister to his siblings and an aunt to his nieces and nephews. The Venegas Family, originally from the Philippines, also welcomed Michael as one of their own. He especially enjoyed his relationship with his and Edna’s young godson, Matty Locke. Michael is survived by his loving wife, Edna; parents, Joan and John Lane of Dauphin Island, Alabama; one sister, Alison Lane Kasten (Lawrence) of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; three brothers, Steve Lane of Mobile, Alabama, John Lane (Debra) of Brighton, Tennessee, and David Lane (Susy) of Mobile, Alabama; the Venegas family; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins; and many devoted friends. The family wishes to express its gratitude to the doctors and nursing staff at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center for the skilled and compassionate care that they provided to Michael and the love and support they extended to both Michael and Edna.
