Michael David Guidry, age 57, of Ft Walton Beach, Florida died unexpectedly and peacefully in his sleep September 18, 2021.
He was born at Dyess AFB Hospital, Abilene, Texas on May 14, 1964 to Roland and Pat Guidry, currently of Destin, Florida. Predeceased maternal grandparents were Howard and “Trosy” Boutte of Lafayette, Louisiana; predeceased fraternal grandparents were Frank and Yuline Guidry of Breaux Bridge, Louisiana. Survivors include his brother Todd Guidry (Egla) and niece Khloe deSantana Guidry and nephew Kauan deSantana Guidry of Niceville, Florida; and brother Eric Guidry of Boulder, Colorado, plus many aunts, uncles and cousins in Louisiana and Texas.
Mike was educated locally at New Heights, Meigs, Choctaw High School and Okaloosa-Walton Community College where he graduated with an Associate of Science degree. He was a Choctaw CLASS OF ’82 alumni and member of the band family and never missed a reunion. He was a member of St Mary’s Catholic Church, attending every Sunday and on weekdays if someone needed prayers.
Mike enjoyed attending sporting events and was a dedicated football fan of FSU, LSU and New Orleans Saints. He enjoyed the excitement of watching his favorite team at sports bars such as Buffalo Wings. He also served as a volunteer greeter at Mattie Kelly Arts concerts at the Village.
For 21 years Mike was a cashier at Wal-Mart Ft Walton Beach, Florida and loved to “card” senior citizens, in jest, coming through his checkout line with adult beverages. He always tried to bring a smile to his customers, many of who made a point to go through his line. He loved his job.
Mike’s smile, gentleness and compassion for others will be sorely missed. He never complained of his medical problems: kidney failure, dialysis, two kidney transplants, hip joint replacements, leg amputation, and skin cancer. Mike’s positive point of view and his complete trust in God to direct the doctors at Shands Hospital got him through it all. He loved to garden; this was the year his vegetable garden peaked allowing him to reward friends and family with fresh vegetables. Our thanks to his wonderful friends on each side of his home, neighbors Mike and Jeff, for making Mike’s life easier.
