September 14, 1927 ~ September 17, 2020 (age 93) 93 Years Old

Tribute

On Thursday, September 17, 2020, Marshall “Bub” Harold Walters passed away at his home.  He was surrounded by his loving wife and family. Bub was 93 years young.  Bub was born on September 14, 1927, in Laurel, Mississippi.  Soon after Bub’s birth, his parents, Johnny Huston Walters and Erma Polson Walters, moved their family to Selma, Alabama.  Bub grew up in Selma where he met the love of his life, Betty Rowell Walters.  When Bub was seventeen years old, he joined the Navy to serve his country in World War II.  After the war, he returned to Selma to finish High School and later to attend Auburn University where he was a member of the wrestling team.  Bub married Betty on August 25, 1948, and they remained happily married for 72 years.  Bub lived life to the fullest, racing motorcycles when younger and becoming an avid pool player in his later years. Bub and Betty traveled the entire United States, Mexico and Canada in their RV, and enjoyed their retirement years together with many social events with family and friends.  Bub was self-employed entrepreneur and over the years, he owned several successful businesses in Selma and in Fort Walton Beach.  At his death, Bub owned the Emerald Beach RV Park in Navarre, Florida.  Bub was active in many civic and social organizations, such as the Elks Club, the Shriners, the American Legion, the VFW and the Moose Lodge.  Bub was truly the “life of the party” and always had a good joke or amusing story to tell.  Bub lived a life of prosperity and happiness that most envy.  If you have a beer on Thursday night (“Pizza Night” for Bub and Betty), have a cold one for Bub (preferably a Bud Light).  Bub is survived by his wife, Betty; son Ken (Marisa); daughter Susan (Paul Brown); six grandchildren Huston Walters, Jake Walters, McKenzie (Gary) Smith, Ross Shelley (Kimberly Hicks), Morgan (Travis) Smith, and Meaghan (Tyler) Sneed; and five great grandchildren Grey, Marlyn, Sadie, Otis and Oscar.  Graveside services will be held at Beal Memorial Cemetery on September 24, 2020, at 2:00 p.m.
