It was my good fortune to not only have been crewed with Leo during our tour in Vietnam, but also to have come to know him as a good and steady friend for 50 years. When a "Big Mission" was on the schedule in 1967- 68, at times involving 24+ aircraft, Leo was often selected to lead. He was that highly respected and his warmth and sense of humor lifted our spirits high.
I am grateful to have had lengthy telephone conversation with him shortly before his passing to exchange final goodbyes. It was comforting to know how loved he was by family, church, and many friends. He was fully a man at peace.
Love you "Bear"!

Leo was a good friend. I flew with him in combat over North Vietnam many times. He was a professional fighter pilot and a great leader. The world is a lesser place without him.

Lee (Tomcat) was my T-33 IP and taught me to fly a real airplane. Before Viet Nam he was on the tip of the spear pointed at Cuba, getting a very close look at the departure end of the runway in a very heavily loaded F-84F. A great man with a great logbook: T-6, T-33, F-86, F-89, F-80, F-84, F-4. What's not to like?

I am proud to have served with Col Leo Hicks as a combat jet fighter pilot during the Vietnam War. He was a true gentleman and a great warrior. America owes him more than it can ever repay.
