Lawrence (Larry) Carpenter, age 70 passed away on April 6, 2018. He was born to Eileen LaFave and Kenneth Carpenter in Malone, NY He attended Brushton School and at the age of 18 he joined the Army,
Larry’s 20 year service to the military included the era of the Vietnam War. He accomplished much during his military years but was most proud to be able to cook for his fellow members. His passion to fellow veterans brought him to the American Legion. His commitment to the Legion spanned over 30 years in both NY and Florida. Larry served as past District and Post Commander in both states. He currently was serving as both the Finance Officer and Service Officer for Post 221 in Niceville. Larry was humbled to help veterans obtain benefits, work on The Veterans Stand Down and most recently he was involved with the Oratorical and Boys State programs for the youth.
Working in the service industry for years, Larry had a disability retirement in 2009, five years after moving from Burnt Hills, NY to Fort Walton Beach, Florida. He and his loving wife of 21 years, Pat, most enjoyed spending quality time with their grandchildren, and trips to the casino with friends and family. During his time spent at home Larry’s dog, Bella, could always be found right by his side. Larry will be missed by many but mostly by his wife Patricia. Larry is survived by his wife, Pat, children Tammy Carpenter, Tanya Barnes, Wendy(Rick) Stanton and Paul(Khrysti) Emerich; his grandchildren, Justin, Shelby, Lily, Charlie, Wyatt, Jackson, Norah and Haley and his beloved and cherished pet, Bella.
A memorial service will be held at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 363 Miracle Strip Parkway, SW Fort Walton Beach at 12 noon on Wednesday, April 11,2018 followed by a celebration of Life at the Niceville American Legion. The family request in lieu of flowers that donations be made in honor of Larry to the American legion post 221 for “Project Veteran Relief” 444 John Sims Pkwy E, Niceville, FL 32578
