Katie Brooks Fernander

Katie Brooks (Baker) Fernander, 41, passed July 30th, at HCA Florida Fort Walton-Destin Hospital after a brave two-year battle with a rare cancer of the throat. 

Katie was born September 26, 1980, in Hollywood, California, moving to the Smoky Mountains, and Gatlinburg, Tennessee in 1984. She attended Pi Beta Phi and Gatlinburg-Pittman High School, graduating in 1999. During her childhood, she was a Tennessee State Tennis Champion and performed at Dollywood with her father. The Fernander family moved from the Smokies to Ft Walton, Florida in 2016, where she was a beloved, respected employee with SunDestin Resort.

She is survived by her mate of 23 years, Corey Fernander, her daughter, Chloe, 18, father, Billy and Suzi Baker, and her mother, Dolly Baker, all from Gatlinburg and Nancy Fernander of Kodak. There will be no service, but a Celebration of Life, at a later date.
