Joseph Peter "Joey" Cannella

Joseph Peter “Joey” Cannella was born January 13, 1926 in New York City “The Big Apple,” New York.  He became a Fort Walton Beach resident in 1988.  He passed away Wednesday, January 30, 2019 peacefully with his sister, Lucy Zummo at his side. 

Besides his sister, he was survived by a family of nieces and nephews.  He was born to Vincent and Pauline Cannella and cared for his parents until their death.  He was a Navy veteran, enlisted on April 4, 1944 and served our country aboard the USS Union.  He received 3 medals; the American Theatre Award, the Asiatic Pacific Medal and the Victory Medal.  He was a member of the American Legion and VFW.  He was passionate about the New York Yankees and Frank Sinatra.

A Funeral Mass will be Monday, February 4, 2019 at 11 AM at St. Mary Catholic Church with Father Doug Halsema officiating.  Interment will follow in Beal Memorial Cemetery with military honors.  The family will receive friends at the church from 10 AM until 10:40 AM, with a Rosary at 10:40 AM until the service hour.
