John R. Mahone, Jr.

Our beloved family pillar, John R. Mahone Jr., 82, sadly passed away unexpectedly on March 5, 2023.

John was born in Texas to Colonel John R. Mahone Sr. and Ella (Franklin) Mahone and spent a childhood as a USAF kid traveling parts of the world where his father was stationed. He met the love of his life Judith Belle (Lawrence) Mahone in Taiwan and promptly married his last year of college as a Texas Aggie while studying for his degree in Mechanical Engineering. Together they relocated several times adventuring all over the world, creating their family along the way, and renovating home after home that had “hidden potential”; while climbing the corporate ladder. His career path led to positions with Caterpillar, Volvo, Bennett Pump Company, and finally Sears before retiring in 2014. He took pride in his success but was a humble man who was dedicated to his family and had a heart rooted in helping those in need. Those who knew him enjoyed his fun-loving sense of humor and lovingly put up with his sarcasm and mischievous wit. He knew no stranger, was a steadfast trustworthy presence, and the voice of reason for so many who knew and loved him…which was easy to do. Over the years, he developed a passion for vintage cars and enjoyed the restoration process as a hobby. He loved his family more than anything else, besides a cold beer, Mexican food, and his award-winning prized MG & car buddies.

In addition to his wife Judy, son John R. Mahone lll, and daughter Kimberly (Tom) Mahone-Bakke, he is survived by his sister Ann Kubiet. He was preceded in passing by his father and mother, John and Ella Mahone and mother-in-law Bonnie Lawrence. He will be sorely missed by many members of his extended family.

There will be an informal visitation on Sunday March 12, 2023 from 2:00 -4:00 p.m. at Emerald Coast Funeral Home. A private Celebration of Life will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
