John Peter “Pete Kuhns 1932-2019
Pete, as he has been known since childhood, passed away peacefully at home on the morning of July 27th, after many months of patient and devoted care provided by his wife Nadine, his daughters Laura & Monica, his son-in-law David and by a loving and dedicated team of home healthcare staff who made his final months comfortable and tranquil. Pete was a man of towering patience, wisdom and good cheer. He did not raise his voice, he did not criticize, he did not waver in his calm and steadfast dedication to his family. Devoted to learning, he spent a lifetime accumulating college degrees and a prodigious store of knowledge of cultural, political and natural history and classical music. He worked for over 30 years as an aeronautical engineer at Eglin Airforce Base and enjoyed lunch frequently with old his colleagues in retirement. Although resident in Fort Walton Beach for more than half his life, he was an Ohio boy at heart. Pete is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Nadine Frett Kuhns (originally from the south side of Chicago), his children Laura O’Brien (David), Lisa Kuhns (Irma Arreola), Monica Oskowis (Jim) and John Kuhns (Jeanette), his brothers David Kuhns (Patricia) and Robin Kuhns (Laurie) and a veritable army of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, please treat someone you love to a hearty meal of prime rib, potatoes in any form, and apple tart, or otherwise consider a donation to Saint Peter Catholic Church in Mary Esther, of which Pete was a founding member. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 3rd at 10am at St. Peter Catholic Church. Expressions of love and sympathy may be viewed online at www.emeraldcoastfuneralhome.com.
