John Douglas Henderson, Jr.

John Douglas Henderson, Jr, 56, of Fort Walton Beach, FL passed away on November 1, 2020. He was born in Fort Walton Beach on May 30, 1964 to Doug and JoAnne Henderson.

John was a 1982 graduate of Fort Walton Beach High School. He graduated from Florida State University in 1988-Go Seminoles! John was a master at his craft as a bartender most recently at Swizzle Stick but also Jamaica Joes, Fudpuckers, The Little Bar, Hogs Breath, Pandoras and Docie’s Dock among others. His hobbies included wood working and watching his Seminoles on Saturdays with his two Tabby Kitties Cheeto and Dorito. Johnny loved people! He loved life, his Jimma, his family, and his wide assortment of friends from the Fort Walton Beach community in which he lived. In the 1990’s, John became a partner with his two good friends and opened Hoser’s Deli and Ale House on Okaloosa Island which became a fixture in his heart and to the many who passed through the doors.

John was always the go to guy for a witty comment, a jovial laugh, or a kind word of encouragement. His generosity extended to his friends with the annual 4th of July blowout on the island. A “Friendsgiving” Thanksgiving Tuesday turkey day was also celebrated with Jimma and assorted coworkers and peers who couldn’t celebrate on Thanksgiving with their families.

His family is devastated by his loss, but trust wholeheartedly in the hope of Jesus Christ.

Those left to treasure his memory include his Beloved Jimma Grimm; his parents, Doug and JoAnne Henderson; brothers, Matthew (Christi) Henderson and David (Kim) Henderson; nieces, Kelly Henderson, Hannah Henderson and Dana Henderson; nephew, Samuel Henderson; and numerous other family and friends.

John was preceded in death by his Grandparents, Albert and Ruth Fryer and Trudie Henderson; nephew, DJ Henderson; uncle, Ray Henderson; and aunt, Ruth Philips.

Memorial Services will be at First United Methodist Church, Fort Walton Beach on Tuesday, November 10. Family will receive visitors 1-3pm with services to begin at 3:00pm. Rev. David Henderson, Rev. Dave Barkalow and Rev. Jim Ross officiating. Words of Remembrance from Matthew Henderson. Family requests everyone wear masks.

An informal gathering for family and friends will also be held at later date.
