Joan Mavis Moe, age 87, died at home in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida on March 30, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on February 4, 1934 in Shafer, Minnesota to Clarence and Alvina Albertson, and grew up in Balsam Lake, Wisconsin. She married Adrian Moe on December 27, 1952 and they were married almost 68 years. Adrian was in the United States Air Force and Adrian, Joan and their family lived in Albuquerque, NM; Newfoundland, Canada; Dover, Delaware; and finally retiring in Ft. Walton Beach.
Joan was born during the Great Depression. Pete, her older brother, was born in a hospital, but she was born at home. Joan worked in an office when she and Adrian married. Joan lived in a time when men worked and women had babies and kept house. She made fabulous babies (so sayeth her kids)! The Air Force provided a steady paycheck so Joan was able to stay home with her children while they were growing up. She starched and ironed Dad’s uniforms, cleaned and cooked, paid bills and was a looker at parties. When Adrian was deployed or went on TDY, she picked up and did everything. They travelled the world together. After her youngest child graduated, she went back to work. She volunteered at the office at Mary Esther United Methodist Church and then worked at Bridgeway. She worked in Human Resources, started working on her degree at OWJC, and worked her way up to Director. She truly enjoyed working at Bridgeway. It was a special place, and she made some of her closest friendships there. She joined the Red Hat Beach Divas and TOPS, where she made more friends. She went to the gym three mornings a week, and she helped with nearly every wedding, funeral, anniversary, craft fair, or other event at church. She was always there, in the background, making sure things were just right - bringing flowers from her garden or decorations from her collections.
Joan and Adrian were the best parents, grandparents and great-grandparents anyone could hope for. We will miss them both so much.
Joan is survived by her son, Blaine Moe, of Ft. Walton Beach; daughter, Sherrie Wyatt, of Boise, Idaho; daughter Carla Curtis of Ft. Walton Beach; 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in November 2020, her parents, her brother and her son, Glen.
Funeral services will be held at Emerald Coast Funeral Home, 161 Racetrack Rd. NW, Ft. Walton Beach, on Monday, April 5th at 10am. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 9am. Service will take place immediately after the funeral at Beal Memorial Cemetery.
