Jeanne L Purdy

Jeanne Lankford Purdy, was born on August 5, 1942, in Fayetteville, North Carolina. She moved at an early age to Elon, North Carolina where she lived until her marriage to her devoted husband Frank, on April 14, 1963.  After sixty years of marriage, she departed to her eternal home with her Lord, Jesus Christ on September 16, 2023.  Jeanne and Frank were married by her beloved grandfather Dr. Dwight Lankford.  And spent the next 28 years in the Air Force - a great life journey for both. During that time, they were blessed with two sons, Paul and Brian. They were fortunate to spend eight years in Europe giving them the chance to enjoy the culture and travel.  Jeanne attended Elon University and was president of her sorority. She was always active in many activities: officer’s wives club and grief counseling both in Europe and stateside.  After recovering from cancer in 1984, she became a primary counselor for doctors at Scott AFB for cancer victims. Heavily involved in activities at Shalimar United Methodist Church, Jeanne was in the church choir and was one of the initial Stephen Ministers, walk to Emmaus Lay Director, Meals on Wheels, women's bible study, taught Youth Sunday School, volunteer office assistant, and others too many to list. She was a chaperone for both school and church choirs and performed other key functions for these groups.

Her parents, Gene and Kathleen Lankford, and her beloved sister, Marsha, precede her in death. She is survived by her husband Frank, her two wonderful sons, Brian and Paul (wife Kerry), and grandchildren; Blair, Brandon, and Kimberly. Jeanne's two priorities were God first and family second.  A life well lived.

A celebration of life will be at Shalimar Methodist Church on September 28, 2023, at 11:00 am, with a reception following.
