Jean Carolyn Simmons

Jean Carolyn Gavin Simmons, of Opp, Alabama moved to heaven on Sunday, May 17, 2020.   Jean was 84 years old and born on August 14, 1935 to The Late Reader & Susie Mae Jarrette Gavin.   She was delivered by a Mid Wife in her home. She is the ninth child of 10 children.  Jean graduate in 1953 at Covington County Jr. High School on May 21, 1953. Jean loved music, puzzle books, old cowboy movies and her Church Family. She was also a member of THE Deaconess at Beulah First Baptist Church. Jean was a loving and dedicated homemaker.  On November 30, 1955 in Jackson, Mississippi, she married the man of her dreams The Late Deacon William E. Simmons Sr. They were neighbors and in the year of 1975, she became a grandmother. She ask to be called "Nanny". From that time on until she moved in with God's and her loved ones in heaven.

 Nanny is predeceased by Sister's; Helen Gavin Thigpen of Elba, AL, Alice Gavin Wade of Opp, AL;      Brother in law and wife, Horace Simmons and Mamie of Pensacola, FL; Felix Simmons Jr. and Queen of Mobile, AL.; Cleo Simmons of Mobile, AL and Donnie Simmons of Mobile, AL.; Sister in Law and Husband,    Louise Simmons of Mobile, AL; Barbara R. Williams & Lucky Williams of Chickasaw, AL, Rufustine S. Isaac & George Isaac of Prichard, AL. and Carolyn Simmons of Sachse, Tx.  Nanny is survived by her children; Sons, James E. Simmons and wife Monica M. Simmons of Atlanta, GA., Willie E. Simmons and devoted friend Cynthia Bethune,  William E. Simmons, Jr. of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, James Robinson and Demetrich Simmons of San Antonio, TX, Micky Thompson and Latone Thompson of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, Daughter, Barbara Simmons Youmans of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, Michelle A. Perkins and son in law, Terry Perkins of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, Michelle R. Cook and son in law, Chuck Cook of Ft. Walton Beach, FL.

Over the years of Our Parents life they too under their wings: Arthur Blakely and Nancy Blakely of Crestview, FL, James Dunson and Ruby Dunson of Ft. Walton Beach, FL and Austin and Patricia Broughton of Ft. Walton Beach, FL. At the end of " Nanny Jean Carolyn Gavin Simmons” journey , she passed the torch onto her Grandchildren, Marcus E. Burnette,  Michael V. Carson, Scooter Simmons & Justin Ashley,  Irven, Melvin & Marcus Gamble, Byron Jones III, Whitley Jones & Christian Hughes; God Children, Julie Norton Martin & Jeff Norton, Julia Rose, Joseph L. III & Trey Martin;  A host of Great grands, Nieces, Nephews & Cousins.

A going away services will be hosted by Rev. Scottie Thigpen at Beal Memorial Cemetery on Wednesday, May 27, 2020 at 11: 00 a.m. FOR THE FAMILY ONLY.

Visitation will be take place on Tuesday, May 26, 2020 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Emerald Coast Funeral Home, 161 Racetrack Rd. NW, Fort Walton Beach, Fla. 32547
