James Ernest Thomason, age 76, passed away Veterans Day, November 11, 2018. Jimmy was born in Andalusia, Alabama, to Ernest Lee and Thelma Jimmerson Thomason. He graduated from Choctawhatchee High School in 1960 and from University of Southern Mississippi in 1966 with a degree in Business Management. That same year he joined the United States Marine Corps. He went through flight school training and later flew a Huey Gunship in Vietnam (VMO 6) where he was awarded 16 Air Medals, Purple Heart, National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Campaign Stars, and Vietnam Campaign Medal. After his military service, he joined his father becoming owner of Thomason Well Drilling in Fort Walton Beach.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, his brother John Norman Thomason, and his son Bradley James Thomason. He is survived by his wife of 35 years Barbara Randolph Thomason; sister Carolyn (Jimmy) McMullen; son Scott Allen Thomason; grandchildren William Thomason, Regan Alexis Thomason, Christian Cole Thomason, and Reese Allen Thomason.
Funeral services will be Monday, November 19, 2018, at 11 AM at Emerald Coast Funeral Home Chapel. A private interment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday, November 18, 2018 from 2 until 4 PM.
