Tribute

James John Morgan, Jr., age 78, of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, passed away Sunday, May 8, 2022.  He was born on July 4, 1943 to James John Morgan, Sr. and Della Mae Varnadore Morgan in Newport News, Virginia. 

He graduated from China Grove High School in 1961 where he served as Mascot (Red Devil).  After High School  he enlisted in the Air Force where he served for 20 years, including a tour of Vietnam.   The Air Force moved him & his family to bases in 6 states plus Germany and Okinawa.  After retirement from the Air Force he returned to North Carolina with his family for approximately 15 years, before they retired to Ft. Walton Beach in November 2020.

He is survived by his wife Laura Thresia Barger Morgan, whom he married on October 24, 1965. Two sons, James John “Jay” Morgan III of  China Grove, NC and Brian Dana Morgan (Diana) of DeFuniak Springs, FL. One grandson, Ryder Morgan; sister-in-law Jean Barger; brother-in-law Franklin Adams; Nieces Tonya & Sarah; Nephews Chris & Jacob.  Step grandchildren Nicki, Shandy, Ashley, Destiny, Tristan & Trinity. 

He was a member  of the Masonic Lodge and a Shiner.  He enjoyed playing his guitar and singing in the Chapeleers Gospel Group.  He also liked being Santa Clause in various places and participating in “Clowns for Christ” with his son Dana. 

Memorial services will be Thursday, May 12, 2022 at 1:30 PM at Dolores Hope Chapel at Bob Hope Village with Chaplain Beth Bateson officiating.  Military honors will be presented by the Hurlburt Air Force Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Shriners Children Hospital, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Mortgage  Reduction Fund in Mary Ester, FL, or a charity of your choice.
