James Paul Manring, Sr. (Paul), beloved father and grandfather, died peacefully at Shoal Creek Rehabilitation Center on Friday, August 17, 2018 of congestive heart failure. He was 82.
Mr. Manring was born in Opp, AL on June 9, 1936 and moved to Ft. Walton Beach, FL in 1962 and later Crestview, FL in 1999. He graduated from Marion Military Institute in 1954 and attended Troy State University. Mr. Manring served in the Army as a PFC from 1957-1963. After returning from service, he worked for his father at Acme Roofing Co. in Ft. Walton for several years. He was a craftsman for Vitro Technical Services, Inc./Tracor for 25 years until his retirement in 1998. He loved fishing, camping, building, and attending family reunions. Mr. Manring was a lifelong Mason and enjoyed being a Shriner when he lived in Ft. Walton Beach. He attended Woodlawn Baptist Church and was a gentle, kind, and quiet man who will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Paul leaves behind two sons and their families, James (Jim) Paul Manring, Jr. his wife, Angela, and grandchildren Evan and Alexis of Marietta, GA; grandson Zach Manring; and Steven (Steve) Anthony Manring, his wife, Trish, and granddaughter, Melissa of Crestview, FL. In addition, he leaves behind nephews, Robert and Terry Stone, and their families in Montgomery, AL, along with uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by two wives who both succumbed to cancer: Norma Fay Ganey Manring (1985) and Lila Jeanette (Jan) Vandeventer Manring (2009).
Visitation will be held Thursday, August 23, 2018 at Emerald Coast Funeral Home in Ft. Walton Beach from 5:00pm-6:00pm. Funeral Services will be at Emerald Coast Funeral Home on Friday, August 24, 2018 at 10:00am followed by the burial service at 11:00am at Beal Memorial Cemetery in Ft. Walton Beach. George Katzman will officiate. Those who so desire may make donations in memory of Paul Manring to the United Service Organizations (USO).
