Hubert E “Pops” Somerder

Born January 29, 1934, in Erie, Pennsylvania to the late Josef and Helen (Boha) Somerder.  Pops gained his angel wings on November 14, 2021, at home, in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, with his family.

Pops married the love of his life Phyllis “Moms” (Hovis) on February 2, 1958. He entered the Air Force and they began their travels leading them to their permanent home in Fort Walton Beach in 1979.  While serving his country, he spent time in Korea at the end of the Korean war, and Vietnam.  He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal (1olc) and National Defense Service Medal (1olc) among others.  He proudly served his country for over 28 years retiring in 1982 as a Senior Master Sergeant.  He was a faithful member of the Fort Walton Beach Moose Lodge 2193, where he served as a trustee for 3 years and was even a Moose Legionnaire. Pops loved his Moose family with all his heart. Pops lived a long and fulfilling 87 years giving everything he had to his every day. There was not much that could slow Pops down. Every place he and Moms were has been impacted more than words can describe.

Pops is survived by Phyllis (Moms), daughter Lynn (JD) Green, Dennis (Julie) Somerder, and Pamela Woodward;  Grandchildren Stacey (Bill) Turner, Travis Woodward, Toni (Rob) Jacobson, Angela (Mitch) Gideon, Crystal Molina, and Jessica (Joseph) Trimboli;  Great Grandchildren Jacey (Chris), Haley, Tyler, Alisha, Dillon, Cristobal, Regan, Kailyn, Caine, Zane, Melanie, Cerenity, Jaxton, Will, Brett, Reagan, Jonathan; Great Great Grandson Calvin; Brother-in-law Bill (Carolyn) Hovis; As well as numerous nieces and nephews. Also, former sons-in-law Joe (Sherri) Prejean and David Molina.

Pops is preceded in death by his Mother and Father; Mother and Father-in-law; Siblings Albert, Bertha, Clara, Robert, Herbert; Sister-in-law Janet Taylor; Son-in-law John Woodward; and Grandson Christopher.

There will be a Service of Tribute at the Fort Walton Beach Moose Lodge 2193 at 215 Green Acres Road, Fort Walton Beach, on Saturday, November 20, 2021, at 2:30 pm.  The day of interment will be on November 26, 2021, at 2:30 pm, in Barrancas National Cemetery, 1 Cemetery Road, Pensacola NAS, Pensacola, Florida.
