Tribute

Elmira “Myra” McFarland passed away peacefully on May 16, 2020 in Destin Florida, at 90 years old.  Myra was born on Oct 15, 1929 in Chicago Illinois to Elmer Green and Mae Belgram. She attended Bowen High School on the South Side of Chicago and spent most her life on Chicago’s East side where she raised her family. She married Robert McFarland on January 8, 1949.

Myra was full of life and energy, was always a bright light at any social gathering, and was quick to dance in any setting. She loved all kinds of dancing, from ballroom dancing, jazz dancing, and especially rock and roll. Her love of dancing Included square dancing where she traveled and performed with her group, Not So Perfect Squares. It never mattered the kind of music, Myra could cut a rug.

Myra was a member of and regularly attended service at Annunciata Catholic Church where she participated in the Church choir and assisted other Church activities. Her other social and service activities included volunteering at the St Frances DeSales food pantry as well as her active roles with the East Side Seniors, where she served as an officer of the organization.

She is survived by 5 of her children, Eileen, Kathy, Robert P, Marji, and Sarah, her grandchildren, Greg, Jeff, Vince, Don, Heather, April, Timothy, Regina, James., and Steven, 7 great grandchildren and 1 great great grand child, as well as two siblings, James and Linda.

Myra loved her family, she was willing to help in all ways, and she was quick to share her wisdom or give advice, both solicited and unsolicited. She was a doer and never hesitated to attack any problem, big or small. Myra was a true glamour girl, was always dolled up and bejeweled, with bright colors and vibrant clothing. She will be missed by many.

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert McFarland, her children Ray and Danny, her son in law Mike, her grandchild David. Her siblings Marvin, Marjory, and Kenny.

A memorial service will be scheduled on Oct 15 2020 at Elmwood Chapel. Myra will be interned at Holy Cross Cemetery in Calumet City.
