Eileen Mary Porter Montgomery

1927 - 2020

Eileen, a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 27, 2020 at the age of 93.  Eileen, called Nana by most, was born in Woburn, Massachusetts, June 4, 1927.  She lived in the town of Wilmington, MA until she married her high school sweetheart Richard “Monty” in 1949.  As an Air Force wife of 71 years, Eileen followed Monty to seven states and four tours to Europe. Together they settled in Fort Walton Beach in 1977 when Monty retired from the military.  

Always active, Eileen worked at Keltec for several years.  She was an avid supporter of SOCKS (Save our Cats and Kittens) working in their thrift shop, and also fostering, if not adopting, many kittens and cats.  She helped organize a “Chat and Chew” group of other SOCKS volunteers that met monthly for years.   Eileen loved working in her garden no matter the temperature.  She never met a stranger, opening her home and heart to all who walked through.  Children and babies were her special love.  Toward the end, it was stories and pictures of her great-grandbabies and neighborhood children that helped to bring a smile to her face.

Survivors include her husband, Richard Montgomery of Ft Walton Beach, Florida; daughter, Catherine Harris (Jerry) of Deltona, Florida; Susan Martz (David) of Shalimar, Florida; daughter in-law, Patricia Montgomery of Mesa, Colorado; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Geraldine Doane of Summerfield, Florida; sister, Leona Doherty (Henry) of Andover, Massachusetts; many nieces and nephews and her two beloved cats Toby and Penny.

She was preceded in death by her son, Richard (Jim) Montgomery Jr. of Mesa, Colorado; her parents Henry & Doris Porter of Wilmington, Massachusetts; her sister Eleanor Kelley and her nephew Richard (Ricky) Kelley of Lady Lake, Florida.

Memorial Services will be held on Friday, January 8, 2021 at 10:00 A.M. at Emerald Coast Funeral Home, 161 Racetrack Road NW, Ft. Walton Beach, FL 32547 followed by burial at Beal Memorial Cemetery.  Facial masks and distancing are required.  On-line condolences can be viewed at www.emeraldcoastfuneralhome.com
