Edna Boyett Clair

Edna Boyett Clair, age 98, of Fort Walton Beach, FL, passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2023.

She was born on the family farm in Candler County near Metter, GA to the late M.C. & Wealthy Lanier Boyett. She was a graduate of Metter High School, Draughn's Business College & Crawford W. Long School of Nursing.

After the death of their parents, at the young age of twenty, she became the surrogate mother to her ten year old sister. She provided a loving home & with a wisdom far beyond her years, taught by example, life lessons & the meaning of moral character, honesty, integrity & how to be an independent woman.

When her sister was college bound, Edna left her secretarial job & entered nurses' training in Atlanta, GA. She enjoyed over three decades as a registered nurse, working in hospitals in Atlanta, GA, Macon, GA, Jackson, MS, & Charlotte, NC. After becoming an RN, she met Joe M. Clair & after a short courtship, they embarked on a marriage that lasted for fifty-five years until Joe's passing in 2013.

Edna was tiny in stature but towering in spirit & with a personality that would fill a room. She was the epitome of a southern lady - strong, sweet & giving with a remarkable sense of humor. Her family & friends celebrate her life as a loving, devoted wife, sister, aunt, caregiver & generous friend who always lifted the spirits of all those around her. She dedicated her life to serving others & giving of herself unconditionally.

She was predeceased by her parents, siblings, Kermit Boyett, Ouida Holloway, Jean Mallette, beloved nephew, Gregory Bunn & husband, Joe M. Clair.

She is survived by her devoted sister, June B. Bunn, several nieces & nephews & a host of friends.

The family would like to express their appreciation to her extended family at Belvedere Commons & Emerald Coast Hospice for the friendship, comfort & care that they so lovingly gave her.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggest memorials be made to Emerald Coast Hospice, 1301 N. Eglin Pkwy. Suite D, Shalimar, FL 32579 or to the charity of your choice.

Inurnment will be at Holly Hills, Fairburn, GA where she will be laid to rest with Joe in the Clair family plot.
