Dr. Roberto Capellan, age 89, of Shalimar,FL, passed away peacefully on December 15, 2018.
Roberto was born on April 17, 1929 to the late Jose and Dolores Capellan. He was one of nine children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Teresa Capellan, his sisters Bienvenida Capellan, Alicia Capellan, Teresa Altagracia Capellan, and Hilda Capellan; and his brothers, Salvador Capellan and Victor Capellan.
He is survived by his sister Hadailma Rodriguez, his daughter Louise Capellan-Adams and husband Arthur Adams; his grandchildren Camille Adams, Nicholas Adams and Miles Adams; his closest nieces Mary Espaillat, Claudia Infante, Francis Mackowiak, Miladys Valdez, Jenny Roman, Rose Martinez, as well as a host of additional nieces, nephews, brother in law, other relatives and friends.
Roberto was Roman Catholic by faith and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fort Walton Beach, FL. He was a native of the Dominican Republic and immigrated to New York after completing his Doctorate of Medicine at the Universidad de Santo Domingo.
It was in New York that he met his beloved wife to be, Teresa Taveras. They were married on December 29, 1962 and were husband and wife for 37 years until her death on May 20, 1999.
Roberto was a Pathology Fellow in New York for several years. Then after relocating to FL , he practiced General Medicine for the State of Florida Hospital system for 30 years before retiring.
He enjoyed watching sports, especially Baseball, painting and spending time with family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, December 27, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Fr. Doug Halsema officiating.
Internment will follow at 2:00 pm at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, FL.
The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 26, from 6-8:00 pm with a Rosary service at 6:30 pm.
If desired flowers can be sent to the funeral home. Or in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society in memory of Roberto Capellan.
