Dorothy Myron Rogers, age 91, “Miss Dottie” to all the children she helped raise, in her home, where she had a day care for 10 years and at Kindercare where she worked for several years.

She lived in Fort Walton Beach from 1961 until 1990 when she moved to Deland, FL to live with her own mother.  In 1993 she moved back to Fort Walton Beach where she lived out her life.  She spent the last 5 months of her life at Westwood Rehab and Longterm care, dying on Saturday, May 5, 2019.

Dorothy was born October 30, 1927, in Tifton, GA to Willie & Effie Brooks.

She believed in education for all.  In the 1970’s she took classes at Choctawhatchee High School and received her GED diploma, of which she was very thrilled and proud.

She was a faithful and loving member of the Church of God of Prophecy Worship Center in Niceville for many years.

She is survived by two daughters, Virginia “Ginny” Sloan and her husband, William “Billy” Sloan and Deborah “Debbie” Mongiat and her husband, “Roy” Mongiat; her grandchildren, Richard (Nichole) Gentile Jr., Melissa Giafaglione, Victoria Mongiat, William A. She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Effie Brooks; three brothers and sisters, Marvin Brooks, Iona Chastain and Darlene Ford.

Aside from her earthly family she had three great loves in her life:  Her Lord & Savior Jesus Christ who she now is living with in Heaven, Music – She played her guitar and sang gospel music every day for 30 minutes or longer, until she fell on May 5, 2019.  She continued to sing until her death, and animals, especially her cat “Precious” that she believes was sent to her by God.

A Celebration of Life will be Sunday, November 17, 2019 at 2 PM lead by Pastor William Nester at the Church of God of Prophecy at 410 N.
