D. Ilene Hetter

D. Ilene Hetter passed away on May 30, 2022, after a brief illness.  She was 77 years old.  She was born to the late Murry and Helen Sparkman on May 28, 1945, in Galveston, Texas.

She met her husband, Bill, when they both worked for NASA.  They married in 1968.  After Bill retired from the military, they settled in Shalimar, Florida.  Ilene, as she liked to be called, worked at ERA American Realty for many years as a receptionist. 

Ilene is survived by her loving husband of 54 years and her three children and their spouses: Chuck and Nathalie Gilchrist, David and Rebecca Hetter, and Jonathan and Dawn Kanzigg.  She is also survived by her grandchildren: Corey, Ryan, Evan, Amanda, Lance, Noah, Rylee, David, and Kayla, and two great-grandchildren, Elliott and Charlotte.  She was preceeded in death by her sister, Shirley Roberts.

Ilene was a talented seamstress, enjoyed making quilts for her family, and often donated them to the NICU in the hospital as well.

A visitation will take place on Thursday, June 9, 2022 at 10:00 A.M. at Saint Mary Catholic Church in Ft. Walton Beach followed by a funeral service at 11:00 A.M. Interment will take place at Barrancas National Cemetery.
