Cyrus Whitton Harris, Sr. age 83, known by many as Cy Harris, passed away surrounded by family and loved ones the evening of September 1, 2021. Cy was born Sept. 17, 1937 in Dothan, Alabama to Beaumont Whitton and Ruby Kimbrell Harris. His brother, Thomas Kimbrell Harris passed away in May 2021. Cy is survived by his wife, best friend and love of his life, Adelaide Devoy Harris, son and daughter-in-law Whit and Lisa Harris, sons Gerard D. Harris, Seamus E. Harris, 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Cy moved to Fort Walton Beach in 1953 where he attended Choctawhatchee High School and was the place kicker on their football team. He attended the University of Mississippi in Oxford and later served in the United States Army Reserve for several years before becoming honorably discharged and working for Boeing in Huntsville, Alabama on the Saturn Rocket Program. Cy & Adelaide settled back in Fort Walton and they founded Harris Insurance in 1965. His love of business and community included starting and assisting in forming various enterprises and churches. He served as President of the local Kiwanis Club, and found his deepest joy in serving the Lord as a member of Gideons International and the Full Gospel Businessmens Association. He was an accomplished biblical researcher and authored numerous theological papers including a published book on Healing. Cy attended and was a member of Grace Covenant Church.
Services will be held Thursday, September 09, 2021 at Emerald Coast Funeral Home, beginning with a visitation at 10:00 AM, Memorial Service at 11:00 AM and a procession and Graveside Service to follow at Beal Memorial Cemetery.
