Coy “Bruce" Barrett of Ft. Walton Beach, Florida, passed away May 27, 2019 on Memorial Day weekend at his home. He was born November 7, 1940, in Searcy, Arkansas, to the late Lloyd and Hazel Cook Barrett. He grew up in Cabot, Arkansas. He loved baseball as a kid, especially the old Brooklyn Dodgers. He played baseball for Cabot teams and for Arkansas Tech University, but always remained an avid Arkansas Razorback fan. He lived in Angola, Africa, as a young adult where he worked in offshore oil for several years and where he married his former wife, Lena.
He is survived by his daughter, Dr. Janine Barrett Bradberry and son-in-law, Kraig, and grandchildren Barrett and Antonia of Jacksonville, Florida; his brother, Woodrow Barrett of Cabot, Arkansas; his sisters, Teresa Sawrie (Jerry) of Russellville, Arkansas, and Tracey Baldwin (John) of Wake Forest, North Carolina.
Bruce will be laid to rest in Rose Bud Cemetery in Rose Bud, Arkansas. There will be no services, per his request. However, memorial donations in his name can be made to the veteran charities that were so important to him, such as Paralyzed Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Wounded Warrior Project.
