Colonel Virgina "Ginny" Lee Floyd, USAF Retired

Colonel Virginia “Ginny” Lee Floyd, USAF of Shalimar, Florida, died on Sunday, November 10, 2019.  She was born June 19, 1927, in Barnesville, NC, to Mr. and Mrs. Dinx Frederick Floyd.  She graduated from East Carolina Teachers College in Greenville, NC, and from Duke University School of Physical Therapy in 1953.

After being on the staff of the Charlotte Orthopedic Clinic for 8 years, she joined the USAF in 1962.  Following assignments in Tachikowa (Japan), March, Shaw, Keesler, and Langley Air Force Bases, she was designated Physical Therapy Consultant for Tactical Therapy at Eglin Air Force Base Regional Hospital.  Her military honors include:  Meritorious Service Medal, USAF Commendation Medal, and Humanitarian Service Medal.

She is survived by two nieces, Ann Madre and Sulou Rose, and two nephews, Kenneth Ford and Frederick Floyd.  Also, she remembers her many friends, especially Mary Goddard, Carolyn Jessup, Lillian Neal and her Roberson County, NC friends.

Colonel Floyd was an avid golfer and birder.  She traveled far and wide on many birding adventures.

A Celebration of Life will be Friday, November 22, 2019 at 2 PM at Emerald Coast Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.  After the service, her ashes will be taken to Fairmont, NC to be buried in the Floyd Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a charity of your choice.
