Charles M Sorrells

Charles Michael “Mike” Sorrells, 66, passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2020 in Fort Walton Beach, Florida surrounded by family and friends at home.

Mike graduated from Fort Walton Beach High School in 1972 in the first graduating class. He then attended the University of Florida where he joined Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity and was voted Best Brother in 1976 and served as Secretary Treasurer from 1975-1976. Mike graduated in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and minor in Management & Marketing. Mike worked at Bank of America for 25 years, retiring as Branch Manager Vice President before returning home and working for the Okaloosa County School District transportation department as a bus driver for the past 10 years.

Heavily involved in his community, he volunteered at American Cancer Society for 9 years and was part of the organization’s Event Leadership Team for 8 years, as well as having served as the food pantry organizer for Children in Crisis FWB and a member of the Ellis Lodge. Additionally, Mike was a dedicated member of his church, Fort Walton Beach First United Methodist Church, serving many roles in the congregation including, Relay for Life Team Captain for 9 years, Chairman Council on Ministries for 3 years, member of the Nominating Committee for 3 years and organizer of FUMC's inaugural Great Day of Service, helping with over 20 projects and leading 120 people.

He is survived by his children Erick, Amanda and Olivia, father Trent Sorrells, sister Ann and her husband George, niece Jennifer and her family and nephew Nick and his family.

As many know, Mike loved cooking, camping, church-related activities and going to the beach with his family and friends. He will be remembered fondly at many themed parties, including Mardi Gras festivities, as he loved to sponsor and attend those with the many friends he held close to his heart.

The funeral service will be held at Fort Walton Beach First United Methodist Church on Sunday, June 14, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. CST. A celebration of Mike’s life will be held at a later date when all of his loved ones can honor his social nature properly and safely.
