Carroll A. Kemp, Jr., 78, passed away Saturday surround by his family at Sacred Heart Hospital in Miramar Beach, Florida. Services will be held at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church in Destin, Florida at 1pm Saturday. Emerald Coast Funeral Home in Fort Walton Beach is handling arrangements. A private burial will be held Monday at Hazlehurst Cemetery in Mississippi. Stringer Funeral Home is handling arrangements in Hazlehurst. Mr. Kemp was born and raised in Hazlehurst, Mississippi to Carroll A. Kemp, Sr. and Dorothy Riley Kemp. He was a record setting, All-State, multi-sport athlete at Hazlehurst High School where he graduated in 1957. He attended the University of Mississippi where he graduated in 1961 and was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He spent the next three years in the Air Force at Eglin Air Force Base where he met his wife, Jane. They spent the next 23 years in Gulfport, Mississippi, where he worked for Hancock Bank, coached elementary school football and basketball and was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. In 1987, he moved to Destin, Florida where he worked for First National Bank of Destin and Amsouth Bank. He served as a leader for several civic groups including Rotary and Chamber of Commerce, he also served the community as President of both the Northwest Florida Economic Development Council and Walton County Economic Development Council. He was a member of Cornerstone Presbyterian Church. Mr. Kemp loved travel, food and Civil War history. He cheered on his Ole Miss Rebels, fished and played golf. He is survived by his wife Jane Bettes Kemp, three sons and seven grandchildren.
