Bernadette Cover, age 72, of Shalimar, FL passed away peacefully with her husband by her side on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years Minor D. Cover, II; son, Minor D. Cover, III; grandchildren, Minor W. Cover, Taylor Cover; mother, Constance Swartz; brother, Ken Swartz who live in Lynchburg, VA. She was a graduate of Longwood College in Virginia, she was a career educator and the Superintendent of Okaloosa County and Texas schools. She combined her degrees, a Bachelors of Science in Biology, Minor in Earth Science and a Masters in Education in Supervision and Administration. Some of Bernadette’s accomplishments included writing and directed The Florida State Challenge Grant in Archeology in 1984, and a grant for bilingual students and underprivileged that brought in thousands of dollars for South Texas. She worked for the Department of Defense in England, while living there she traveled to Russia to see the Bolshoi Orchestra rendition of Swan Lake on Christmas Eve in Moscow and visited Mike at the DMZ when he was stationed in Korea. She was a member of the Okaloosa County Woman’s Hall of Fame and a construction contractor.

Mrs. Cover will be laid to rest in her family cemetery in Lynchburg, Virginia at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, alz.org.
