Augustus P. Jones

Retired SMSGT Augustus (Gus) P. Jones, 86, of Ft. Walton Beach, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2018.

Augustus was born in Belle Vernon PA on February 25, 1932.  Upon graduation from South Hills High School in Pittsburgh, Gus enlisted in the U. S. Air Force and proudly served his country for 28 years.

Gus married Delores A. Jones (Patterson) on December 10, 1954; they were married 64 years. He enjoyed watching sports and spending time with his friends and family.  He was very good at building accessory furniture and shared his love of jazz music with everyone. Along the way, he developed a fondness for traveling and tutoring the youth of our community. 

He is survived by his wife, three children: Anthony (Tony) Jones (Kyu), Lynn Jones-Baldwin (Dwight), Loren M. Jones; four grandchildren: Dustin W. Jones, Katina Ryan Wright, Drew Ariel Arthur, Aaron S. Jones; a host of great grandchildren, two siblings, and many nieces and nephews.

Augustus is preceded in death by his beloved daughter (Dawn M. Jones), parents Robert and Edith Jones, and six of his siblings.

The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for him during the last years of his life. Services to be held at Gregg Chapel AME at 34 Carson Dr. SE, Fort Walton Beach FL at 5 pm on Thursday, December 20th, and the family will receive visitors one hour prior to services.
