On the day the United States entered into World War ll, an angel was born into the world. On December 7, 1941, Annie Pearl Carson, beloved Mother, Mother-in-Law, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, and Cousin, was born in Atmore, Alabama to the late Genus and Willie Mae Payne. Growing up on a farm as a member of a large family, she quickly gained the reputation of being bossy to her siblings. She was always put in charge and insured chores were done when their parents left the house. She was loved and respected by them all because of her desire to always do the right thing.
On January 29, 1966, her life was made complete when she married the love of her life, Joe Robert Carson. No matter what life threw their way, the two of them kept their faith in God and one another, made the necessary sacrifices, and always persevered. The love they shared was an inspiration to all.
She loved the Lord! She gave her life to God at an early age and always set the example for her family to follow. She was a long-time faithful member of Beulah #1 Missionary Baptist Church in Milligan, FL where Dr. Robert S. Gray is Pastor. She was a member of the choir for many years. She loved singing Songs of Praise to the Lord. One of her favorite songs was “All Of My Help Comes From The Lord.” When her health dictated that she could no longer sing in the choir, she would always find a way to get involved and sing anyway. She also served as a Deaconess, a member of the Finance Committee, Sunday School Superintendent, and was the Mother of the Church. She was a dedicated worker for many years, until retirement, for the School District of Okaloosa County, at Fort Walton Beach High School.
She was preceded in death by her Parents, her loving husband, Joe Robert Carson, son Claudy L. Payne, grandson Devon Payne, five brothers and one sister. She is survived by four sons; Pastor James (Wanda) Payne of Tacoma, WA; Robert Carson and Marlon Carson of Fort Walton Beach, FL; Jerry (Sharon) Payne of Navarre, FL; and Terry (Mary) Carson of Crestview, FL; one daughter, Jacquelyn (Robin) Bray of Chauncey, GA; four sisters, Mary Lou McCoy, Eloise Lee, and Isabel Frost of Ithaca, NY, Annie Ruth (Edward) York of Greenville, AL, and Helen Roof of Mary Esther, FL, a Sister-in-Law who was more like a sister. She is also survived by 31 grandchildren, to include Adrian Payne of Fort Walton Beach, FL who she raised as a son, and granddaughter BreAnna (Michael) Sumpter of RAF Mildenhall in Bury St. Edmunds, United Kingdom, who lived with her for many years, a very dear friend Mary Malone of Fort Walton Beach, FL, and numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members and friends. Her love and memories will live on forever.
“Come with Me”
God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be
So He put his arms around you and whispered “Come to Me”
With tearful eyes we watched you suffer and saw you fade away
Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay
A golden heart stopped beating, hard-working hands at rest
God broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes the best!
