Tribute

Alice Ratzel was born Alice Geraldine Parker March 28, 1942 in Washington D.C..
Her parents were Rosa Alice Williams Parker and Jessie Parker. Her mom Rosa
resided with her and her 2 kids Hirvenia Alice Holmes and Herschel Michael
Holmes through most of their lives. While Alice was loved by many you could
always count on her fierceness when riled and a stare that could stop a train on
a dime if so! Alice was never one to worry about being liked or disliked either,
but respect was something that she always commanded. There was no better
friend to the people who she loved and cherished and no better protector or defender
when someone needed a shoulder or someone at their back!

Alice was an avid reader of spy novels and mysteries of all kinds. Spirited conversation
and debates always kept her mind going on any subject from world
events to theories on parallel universes and quantum realities. She enjoyed the
arts, travel, and took a big interest in city politics by working at the polls. But her
greatest joy was being a crossing guard at Kelley and Beach for Destin Elemetary
School. She loved all of the kids and there was hell to pay if any drivers did not
heed her stop sign while her kids and their parents were crossing the road!! Alice
was also a big entertainer of friends and family that visited her home along with
her husband Paul H. Ratzel who she was married to for 28 years up until his
death in 2015. The 2 of them faced the world together through all the good and
the bad that came into their lives. I have not witnessed another love such as
theirs! Alice was also blessed with 3 more children in her marriage to Paul.
Kim Ellen Ratzel, Paul Kirk Ratzel, and Karin Louise Fones who she loved greatly!

Alice was no saint by any means… but she lived life with passion and honesty
of heart and spirit!! To know her was to love her, literally! I know that I and
many others will miss her and cherish her always… Rest In Peace Mom…
